Work in progress

The CPSC 213 folder is more or less done. The CPSC 221 and MATH 221 folders are still under progress, I expect them to be done by mid January or so.

Welcome!

This website is a repository of notes for computer science classes at UBC. It contains my personal notes that I wrote during the semester for the class, refined once finals where over and I had more time. I hope they can be of use to future students taking these classes.

Check out some articles like the procedure article, or maybe the mutex article to get a feel for the repo.

Use

You are free to use this repository as you see fit. I will also make the git repo public, so if you wish to clone it and modify the notes to fit your standards or add onto them you are more than free to do so.

I do have recommendations however. I would recommend using these notes as a reference. I would cross reference the class content, your own notes and these to build a mental model of the taught concepts. I don’t expect cramming the information here will be useful whatsoever.

Content

All articles contain as much possible relevant information to the class, with a little extra. The extra parts you don’t need to know are marked with callouts like this:

Non-testable

This information will (probably) not be on the test.

I have this “extra” information because:

  • Learning is fun
  • Sometimes the course content abstracts/simplifies and I like to compare to the real deal
  • Having connections to things I’m interested in, including things that aren’t testable makes it easier to remember things that are testable

Organization

Notes are intentionally not organized in any particular way. I dislike folder systems for class notes as a lot of things connect with each other across points in time and topics. Those connections are what make it easier for me to remember things and build an image of how things work. If you wish to find something quickly I would recommend using the search bar at the top left. It will search for keywords in an article as well.

Sources

Most of the content here is a combination of class slides cross-referenced with online sources like Geeks4Geeks, Wikipedia, and various docs. Gen AI was not used to write any of the content.

Disclaimer

It is pretty likely some of the information here is wrong. It’s also pretty likely I missed some concepts or slides that should be here. I included the most information when the topic was either challenging or interesting to me. Double check information that sounds fishy, and always trust the course content as the primary source of information over me. These classes are also likely to change. The information here was up to date for the 2025 W1 semester.
